Spring 2005
Crete Titan/Cassini-Huygens
meeting
Titan
after the Huygens and First Cassini Encounters
FORTH and University of Crete
Heraklion, Crete, Greece
30 May – 3 June 2005
Dear colleagues,
After the fabulous success of the Cassini-Huygens mission, we invite
you to a meeting to discuss the initial results from the Huygens probe
and first several close flybys of Titan by the Cassini orbiter. The
meeting will take place in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, 30 May to 3 June
2005.
Registration is now open !
Go to :
http://www.lpl.arizona.edu/titanconference/
or
http://esrb.iesl.forth.gr/titan/
for more information and to register. Note that there is no
registration fee but a participation to meal, coffee (or ouzo) breaks,
etc may be asked for later on as we know better the costs encountered.
Please send us your abstract by April the 15th.
Rationale
To bring together scientists from the Cassini/Huygens project,
ground-based observers, modellers, and terrestrial laboratory
scientists to provide a forum for the exchange and review of initial
results from Cassini/Huygens observations. The new results will be
considered in relation to expectations based on ground-based
observations, Voyager results, and theoretical models and to plan for
future investigations with the Cassini spacecraft, earth-based
observatories, and theoretical models.
Topics
All aspects of Titan, from interaction with Saturn's magnetosphere to
interior structure with an emphasis on the comparison of probe, initial
orbiter results, ground-based observations, and models.
Timing
The meeting will be held the week of 30 May to 3 June 2005. This
is 5 months after the probe entry and follows the first 6 Cassini-Titan
encounters, providing sufficient time for first data analyses, and the
beginning of more comprehensive analyses. This is an excellent time to
compare results, identify interesting problems, and examine research
directions.
Location
Heraklion, Crete, Greece. Prof. Vardavas and his group have
graciously offered to host the workshop at the Foundation for Research
and Technology - Hellas and The University of Crete, where facilities
are excellent. Greece is a new member
of ESA. See the web site for more information on venue.
Format
Presentations will consist of half hour invited talks and contributed
talks and posters. In addition, there will be several panel
discussions on major topics as well as frequent opportunities for
discussion of more specific questions.
Publications
A special issue of PSS is possible.
